Sesriem Campsite – Camp Inside Namib-Naukluft Park

Sesriem Campsite

Sesriem Campsite is located in the center of the Namib-Naukluft Reserve. This place serves as the entrance to some of the widest sand dunes in Namibia. Sesriem has been improved and offers a quiet atmosphere on the edge of the Namib Desert. You can see the dunes and wide landscapes from your campsite.

The campsites are spaced apart and share clean bathroom facilities. They are placed under camel thorn trees, which give some shade during your stay. There is also a restaurant, a bar, and a shop where you can buy supplies.

Sesriem Campsite is very popular. It is the best place to start your early morning trip to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. Watching the sunrise over the Namib dunes is a special experience.

The campsite is in a great location, and we suggest staying at least two nights. This way, you can enjoy both sunrise and sunset across the desert.

The Sesriem Canyon

The word “Sesriem” means “six leather straps.” These straps came from oxen that pulled wagons. People tied six of them together to lower a bucket into the canyon to collect drinking water. This is how the canyon got its name.

While staying at Sesriem Campsite, you can explore the Namib dunes and take a walk through Sesriem Canyon.

The campsite is inside the National Park. There are set areas for camping under camel thorn trees. One big advantage of staying here is the chance to enter the park before sunrise. Sossusvlei & Deadvlei are about 60 km from the campsite. We recommend waking up early and driving to Sossusvlei to see the sunrise over the dunes.

The colors of the Namib Desert in the early morning and late afternoon are very beautiful. Visit the Namib Desert this season and book your stay at Sesriem Campsite.
