Detailed 2-Day Sossusvlei Camping Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Windhoek/Walvis Bay – Namib Desert (Sesriem Campsite)

You will be picked up from your hotel in Windhoek (or the Truck Port) or from Flamingo Villa Boutique Hotel in Walvis Bay. The drive to Sesriem passes through Namibia’s central plateau and the small town of Rehoboth, where we stop for supplies. We continue through the desert and pass the small area of Büllsport, reaching Sesriem by early afternoon.

At Sesriem, we set up camp under a large camel thorn tree with views of the faraway dunes. After a light picnic-style lunch, you can take a short drive to Elim Dune to watch the sunset. You may also walk back to camp through the soft sand as the sun goes down.

Overnight: Sesriem Campsite
Meals included: Picnic-style lunch

Day 2: Sesriem – Sossusvlei – Windhoek/Swakopmund

We wake up early to catch the sunrise over the dunes. Our first stop is Dune 45, which lights up in warm colors during the early morning. After climbing the dune and enjoying the views, we stop for a simple roadside breakfast.

From the 2×4 parking area, we take a 4×4 shuttle or walk to reach Sossusvlei and Deadvlei. Deadvlei is a dry white clay pan with tall dead trees, surrounded by high dunes, including Big Daddy.

After visiting Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon, we start the trip back to Windhoek or Swakopmund. Along the way, we stop at the Tropic of Capricorn for a quick photo.
