Where is the park located?
Namib-Naukluft National Park is in western Namibia, between the steep mountains of the Great Escarpment and the Atlantic Ocean. It covers 49,768 km² (19,216 sq mi), making it one of the biggest parks in Africa.
The park includes the Namib Desert, Sandwich Harbour lagoon in the north, and the Naukluft Mountains in the east.

The park is open all year. However, the cooler months from May to October are the best time to visit. The weather is not too hot during the day, which is better for hiking and exploring the dunes.
From November to April, it can be very hot, but this is also the rainy season. The rain helps brighten the desert, and the skies are often clearer, which is good for birdwatching.
