Detailed 3-Day Sossusvlei Safari & Sandwich Harbour Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Windhoek to Sossusvlei
Start your journey in Windhoek and travel south through dry desert landscapes. Enjoy views of the Khomas Highlands and Namib Desert. Stop in the small town of Solitaire for a light lunch and try the famous apple pie. You will arrive at Sesriem Campsite in the late afternoon and set up your tent. Spend the evening watching the sunset over the dunes, followed by dinner around the campfire under the stars.
Day 2: Explore Sossusvlei and Deadvlei
On this second day of your 3-Day Sossusvlei camping safari & Sandwich Harbour tour, wake up early and enter Namib-Naukluft National Park before sunrise. The cool air and soft morning light make it the best time to explore. Head toward Dune 45, one of the most photographed dunes in the world. Climb the dune for wide views of the sand stretching out into the distance.
Next, visit Sossusvlei, a dry salt-and-clay pan surrounded by high dunes. Walk around and learn about the land and plants that survive here. Nearby is Deadvlei, a white clay pan with dark, dry camelthorn trees that are more than 900 years old. The bright ground and red dunes around it make this area very special to see.
Day 3: Sandwich Harbour & Return to Windhoek
Have an early breakfast and drive for 4 to 5 hours to Walvis Bay, passing through desert landscapes.
At Walvis Bay, take a guided 4×4 drive to Sandwich Harbour in Namib-Naukluft National Park. This is where the high desert dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoy the drive on the dunes and take in the amazing views. You’ll have a picnic lunch in the middle of the dunes.
After lunch, begin the 4 to 5-hour trip back to Windhoek. You will arrive in the evening and end your 3-Day Sossusvlei camping safari & Sandwich Harbour tour.
