Desert Hills Lodge – Luxury Chalets Near Sossusvlei, Namibia

Desert Hills Lodge

Desert Hills Lodge is in a good location to enjoy the beauty of the Namib, just 30 km from the Naukluft Gate.

A wide stretch of dry land. The ever-changing Hebron sky and part of the Tsauchub River. Surrounded by their yellow grass huts, the ancient San people used this place to dance and tell stories by the warm light of their fires at night.

On the same plains and mountains where Desert Hills Lodge now stands, these strong nomads once lived.

In more recent times, these same plains, mountains, and dunes became home to people who settled as farmers. They called the area Hebron, which means “the place of strong friendship,” and raised Karakul sheep for their skins and wool. The Porteus family bought part of the Hebron farm in 1981 and later decided to open this beautiful area to travelers.

Desert Hills Lodge was planned, built, and developed by its owners. It was inspired by the huts of the ancient people of the Namib. The design is simple and smooth, without sharp corners like those in busy cities.

The rounded shapes of the high grass domes lead the eyes across the space, showing off the special style of the lodge.
