Le Mirage Desert Lodge & Spa – Moroccan-Inspired Luxury Near Sossusvlei

Le Mirage Desert Lodge and Spa

Le Mirage Resort and Spa is, as the name suggests, both a lodge and a spa. It is located about 20 kilometers south of Sesriem, making it quite close to the Sossusvlei dunes. The sight of a castle-like building in the middle of the desert can feel a bit unusual.

The building looks more fitting for Morocco than Namibia and stands out for its unique style. Le Mirage is decorated in a Moroccan theme, with bright blue colors contrasting with the orange desert outside.

All 27 twin rooms have private bathrooms. The “Oasis Rooms” have balconies with views of the faraway mountains or the green garden. The rooms are split into two main sections: the Camelthorn Rooms, which include eight rooms and a courtyard with waterfalls and plants, and the Oasis Rooms, which are in a larger building.

This building has a pool shaded by big palm trees and colorful bougainvillea. Due to the room layout, every second room is much larger than the ones on either side.

The rooms have stone walls and four-poster beds with monogrammed sheets, and are furnished with antique items in a Moroccan style. Each room has air conditioning, a safe, tea and coffee-making facilities, and an empty minibar (drinks must be requested).

For a romantic stay, guests can sleep under the stars on one of the two star decks on the “castle” towers. Each deck has its own shower and toilet.

Le Mirage offers a restaurant, a wine cellar, and a turquoise outdoor pool as part of its main facilities. The sundowner area, which has a fire, sometimes hosts a choir. There is also a small waterfall in the lobby, surrounded by tropical plants and fish.

The spa is located on the ground floor of the main building and offers many treatments. There are five treatment rooms with Thai and Indian massages, as well as facials, manicures, and pedicures. Three of the rooms offer “massages with a view,” and some are suitable for couples.

Other activities at Le Mirage include bush dinners, nature drives, quad bike tours, and a Sossusvlei drive with a breakfast on the dunes. The resort can also arrange scenic flights over the area.

For guests who prefer to drive themselves, the Sesriem Gate is about 20 kilometers away.
